Privacy Policy

Effective August 9, 2026

MyDear is a service of SelfOrbit LLC, a Texas limited liability company, which operates the service and is the controller of the personal data described here. MyDear helps people speak, shape, and preserve their life stories. This policy explains what information MyDear handles, why it is needed, and the choices available to you. We do not sell your personal information or use your memoir content for advertising.

Information we handle

  • Account information: your email address, account identifier, authentication records, and account settings.
  • Your creative content: books, chapter titles, spoken-story transcripts, passages, edits, remembered facts you approve, and saved thoughts.
  • Voice processing: microphone audio you choose to send during a voice conversation, plus the resulting transcript and assistant response.
  • Product and technical data: content-free events such as whether a story was started or kept, app build, device class, accessibility size bucket, fixed error codes, and coarse performance measurements.
  • Support and transaction information: messages you send to support and, when you use a paid web service, records needed to administer that transaction. MyDear does not receive your full payment-card number.

How we use information

We use this information to authenticate you, synchronize your books, transcribe speech, conduct the guided conversation, create passages you can review, generate narration you request, provide exports, prevent abuse, support you, operate the service, and understand content-free product reliability. Nothing enters a book until you choose Keep.

Voice and artificial intelligence

When you start voice mode, your device sends a connection offer to MyDear. MyDear authenticates and opens the live session with OpenAI, then returns only the connection answer; no OpenAI credential or provider call identifier is given to the device. Once connected, your device sends microphone audio, encrypted in transit, directly to OpenAI for live transcription and conversation. The audio media does not pass through MyDear's own servers. MyDear does not retain the original microphone recording after the live session. We retain the resulting transcript and assistant response in your account's conversation history so the conversation and proposed passage can be recovered; nothing enters a book until you choose Keep. OpenAI may process limited data under its service and safety controls. MyDear requests provider settings that do not use your content to train public models.

AI can make mistakes. You control whether a proposed passage, fact, or saved thought is kept, and you can edit saved writing.

Service providers

We use service providers only to operate MyDear. Depending on the feature and environment, these include Supabase for authentication, database, and private file storage; OpenAI for AI, realtime voice, transcription, and generated narration; Vercel for application hosting; Upstash for temporary coordination and abuse controls; PostHog for content-free product analytics; Sentry for technical error reporting; Crisp or email providers for support and service messages; and Stripe for web payments. These providers process information under their own data-protection terms and our configuration of their services.

The public MyDear website may use first-party analytics and, when enabled, marketing measurement such as Meta Pixel. Those marketing tools are not included in the native iOS app and are not given your memoir text, transcript, or original microphone audio by MyDear.

Analytics choices

Private product analytics are on by default and the iOS Settings screen lets you turn them off. Turning them off stops the app from sending them. Some events are recorded by our own servers when you take an action such as signing in or saving a passage, and those are not covered by the app switch. Analytics events use an opaque account identity and may include the app interaction and technical fields described above. No analytics event includes story text, transcripts, prompts, chapter titles, names, email addresses, quotations, or audio, though the account profile these events attach to can hold your email address.

Retention and deletion

We keep your account and saved creative content while your account is active so that your books remain available across devices. Temporary retry and safety records are kept only as long as needed for those purposes. Generated narration may be cached privately until it is replaced or the related data is deleted. Original microphone audio is not retained by MyDear after the live session.

You can start account deletion in the iOS app or on the website. Access is disabled immediately, authentication is revoked, and remaining account data is scheduled for permanent deletion within 30 days. Limited records may be retained longer when required for security, fraud prevention, legal compliance, payment records, or to document that a deletion request was completed. Provider backup copies may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.

Your choices

  • Review and edit every passage before or after it is kept.
  • Delete individual books in the app.
  • Request an export from the web settings page.
  • Turn native product analytics off in iOS Settings.
  • Delete your account from iOS Settings or the web settings page.

Security and international processing

We use access controls, encrypted network connections, private storage, and operational safeguards designed to protect your information. No system can guarantee absolute security. MyDear and its providers may process information in countries other than the country where you live, subject to applicable contractual and legal safeguards.

Your rights over your information

You can see, take, and remove your work at any time, from inside the product rather than by asking us.

  • Access and export: Settings creates a file containing your account information, books, chapters, passages, and approved facts.
  • Correction: every chapter and passage stays editable, and nothing enters a book until you choose Keep.
  • Deletion: deleting your account in Settings immediately ends access, revokes your sign-in identity, and schedules your remaining data and generated narration for deletion within thirty days.
  • Analytics choice: private product analytics can be turned off, and it never includes story text, transcripts, prompts, names, email addresses, quotations, or audio.

Depending on where you live you may also have the right to object to or restrict certain processing, or to complain to your local data protection authority. Write to the contact below and we will help.

Age and changes

MyDear is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We may update this policy when the product or law changes. We will post the new effective date and provide additional notice when a material change requires it.
